Anatolian Neolithic farmers were early food-producing communities in what is now Turkey. They lived during the Neolithic transition, beginning roughly 10,000 years ago, and their descendants or related groups contributed ancestry to farming populations that expanded westward into southeastern and later much of Europe.
Anatolian-related farmer ancestry is one of the most useful reference layers for understanding European prehistory. It is not identical to every Early European Farmer or every Neolithic population: farmers in Anatolia, the Levant, Iran and Europe were genetically differentiated and mixed in different ways over time.
